Pyramid Valley North Canterbury Orange 2020
Orange 14% ABV ABV Pyramid ValleySolid birthday present wine
Bought this for my partner's birthday after seeing it on a list somewhere. We both liked it — she said it smelled amazing which is high praise from someone who usually just drinks prosecco. Balanced and easy to drink even though it's got some real complexity going on. Would work well as a gift for someone who wants to try something different.
Nice but a bit steep
Picked this up from a local wine shop on their recommendation. It's good, don't get me wrong — nice weight to it and interesting flavours. But for thirty quid I think I expected a bit more. The 14% hits harder than you'd think too.
My first orange wine and wow
A friend brought this to dinner and I'd never tried an orange wine before. Really surprised me — it's got this lovely depth to it, not weird or funky like I expected. Kept going back for more, the finish just lingers in the best way. At £29.50 I'd definitely buy it myself.
Great with cheese night
We had this with a big cheese board on Saturday and it was perfect for that. Loads of layers going on, proper complex without being try-hard. Would buy again for a special occasion but it's not an everyday wine at that price.
Pyramid Valley nailed this
Been getting into orange wines lately and this is one of the better ones I've had. Really clean finish, nothing too out there — just well made. The aromatics are gorgeous, you get a proper sense of what it's about before you even take a sip. New Zealand doing great things with this style.
