Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill 2015 Champagne
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV Pol RogerImpressive but eye-watering price
Saw this on a wine list at a restaurant and figured I'd try it since it was 'only' £225 retail. It IS genuinely excellent — proper weight to it, beautifully balanced, long finish. But I'd struggle to say it's three times better than a decent £75 champagne.
Worth every penny for a special night
Bought this for our 10th anniversary and it absolutely delivered. The bubbles are so fine and the taste just keeps going — you take a sip and it stays with you. At £225 it's not an everyday thing but for a proper celebration it's hard to beat.
Retirement present to myself
Treated myself after 35 years of work. Every sip felt like it deserved a moment of silence before the next one. I'm not great at describing wine but there are loads of layers in there and they just keep revealing themselves. No regrets on the price.
Good but maybe overhyped?
Don't get me wrong this is lovely champagne. Crisp, well-structured, nice long finish. But at this price point I was expecting to have some kind of religious experience and it was more like 'oh yeah, that's really nice champagne.' Maybe my expectations were too high.
A proper luxury champagne
Got this as a gift and probably wouldn't have bought it myself at £225. That said it's clearly a step above regular champagne — the precision in the finish especially stood out. Would I buy another bottle? Honestly maybe for a big milestone, yeah.
Best champagne I've ever had
My father-in-law brought this to Christmas dinner and honestly it ruined all other champagne for me. It's got this incredible depth to it, sort of bready and rich but still really fresh and crisp. I keep thinking about it months later which is probably not healthy.
The Churchill name is earned
The guy at my local wine shop talked me into this for my birthday. Really glad he did. It smells amazing right from the first pour — confident and complex without being showy. Drank it with some good cheese and it was a perfect evening.
Shared with friends and they were blown away
Opened this at a dinner party and every single person commented on it. There's a real richness there but it never feels heavy, just perfectly balanced at 12.5%. Even my mate who normally drinks lager said it was incredible.
