We crack open a bottle of this every anniversary and it never disappoints. Love the toasty bread thing it has going on, and the bubbles are incredibly fine — makes prosecco feel like sparkling water in comparison. At nearly £48 it's not cheap but honestly it's worth it for special occasions.

Camila Ortiz VIPsAllowed - Solid champagne, bit pricey though

Mate at work recommended Pol Roger so I grabbed a bottle for my wife's birthday. It's good — nice lemony freshness with a sort of pastry richness underneath. But pushing £48 for a non-vintage? There are champagnes at £35 that get you 90% of the way there.

Had this at a restaurant last month and liked it enough to buy a bottle for home. Drinking it on the sofa on a Tuesday didn't quite have the same magic. It's perfectly fine champagne — peachy, bit of toast — but I think I'd been talked into expecting something incredible. Decent but not life-changing.

Brought this to a friend's dinner party and everyone was impressed by the label alone. Tastes really elegant — creamy with white peach flavours and a long finish. Not the most exciting champagne I've ever had but very reliable and crowd-pleasing. Would buy again for gatherings.

I know that sounds mad but trust me on this. The lemon and that crisp acidity just cut right through the batter. Bought two bottles from Waitrose and the second one didn't last the weekend. The dried apricot note is really lovely once you notice it.

Dmitri Volkov VIPsAllowed - Churchill's favourite for a reason!
9/10

Apparently Winston Churchill drank Pol Roger by the caseload and I can see why. This is just beautiful — brioche, lemon, stone fruit, and those tiny tiny bubbles. I'm not usually one to spend this much on a bottle but the wine shop guy talked me into it and I'm genuinely glad he did. Already ordered more.
