Piper Heidsieck Coteaux Champenois Blanc de Noir Ay 2022
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV Piper HeidsieckPiper Heidsieck doing something cool
I know Piper from their champagne obviously but this Coteaux Champenois blanc de noir is a different beast entirely. Still Pinot Noir from Ay, proper Grand Cru stuff. Layers of fruit that just keep unfolding in the glass. Impressed.
Interesting conversation starter
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and was curious. It's good — nice ripe fruit, fresh acidity, decent finish with a bit of minerality. Wouldn't say it blew my mind for the price though. More of a once-in-a-while treat than a regular buy.
Nice but steep price
Got this for a dinner party and it went down well. Lovely nose, all red berries and flowers, and it drinks really smoothly for 12.5%. But at nearly 70 quid for a still wine I'm not sure I'd rush back — you can get a lot of great Burgundy for that money.
What a find
Picked this up after the guy at my local wine shop recommended it as something different. It's a still wine from Champagne which I didn't even know was a thing? The red fruit flavours are gorgeous and it's got this chalky mineral thing going on at the end that I really liked. Definitely buying again.
Perfect with roast chicken
My partner bought this for my birthday and we had it with a Sunday roast. It's surprisingly full and structured for a still wine, not thin at all. The acidity cuts through rich food brilliantly. Really clean finish too.
