Pierre Paillard Les Mottelettes Blanc de Blanc Bouzy Grand Cru 2017
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV Pierre PaillardGood not great
Got this as a gift and it's a solid champagne for sure. Quite honeyed in the middle with a salty edge which was interesting. I think I'd struggle to justify buying it myself at that price when there are decent champagnes around for half that, but it's a nice drink and I wouldn't say no to another glass.
Really solid but pricey
Had this at a friend's dinner party and liked it enough to track down a bottle myself. It's got a nice chalky dryness to it and the fruit is more stone fruit than citrus which I prefer. Bit steep at £95 though — I'd save it for Christmas or an anniversary rather than a regular weekend.
Classy stuff from Bouzy
Picked this up after reading about Bouzy Grand Cru champagnes and wanting to try a proper blanc de blancs. Really expressive — white peach, almonds, a bit smoky. The acidity keeps it fresh and stops it feeling too rich. Would absolutely buy again for a special meal.
Birthday treat that delivered
Bought this for my 40th and wow, it did not disappoint. The toasty almond thing going on is gorgeous and it's got this lovely peachy richness without being heavy. Nearly £95 is a lot but honestly for a special occasion champagne it's worth every penny.
Best champagne I've had in ages
The guy at my local wine shop recommended this and I'm so glad he did. There's this brioche-y toastiness that just keeps going and the finish is incredibly long and clean. I don't usually spend this much on a single bottle but I've already gone back for another one.
Nice but expected more for the price
Opened this with some friends over a seafood dinner. It's good — smooth, well made, lovely dried pear and citrus notes on the finish. But at nearly a hundred quid I was expecting to be completely blown away and it was more like quietly impressive? Still really enjoyed it, just managing expectations.
