Philipponnat Clos des Goisses 2014 Champagne
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV PhilipponnatBest champagne I've ever had
My brother-in-law brought this to Christmas dinner and I'm still thinking about it three months later. It's got this incredible depth to it, like layers and layers of flavour that just unfold the longer you sit with it. I've had plenty of nice champagne but nothing that made me stop and actually pay attention like this did.
Opened this too early and it was STILL amazing
Picked this up as a birthday present to myself. Drank it way too young probably — it's a 2014 and apparently these age really well — but even now it was fantastic. Super concentrated and focused, and the acidity keeps everything really fresh and lively. Going to buy another bottle and actually be patient with it this time.
Worth every penny for a special night
Bought this for our 10th anniversary dinner and wow, it did not disappoint. The bubbles are so fine and the flavours just keep coming — you think you've got it figured out and then something new shows up. At £315 it's not an everyday thing obviously, but for a big occasion? Absolutely worth it.
Properly special champagne
Saw this on the wine list at a restaurant in Paris and thought why not, you only live once. It's definitely a step above your typical champagne — there's a weight and complexity to it that you don't normally get. Went perfectly with the seafood we ordered. Would I buy a whole bottle at home price? Probably not regularly, but I'm glad I tried it.
Stunning but hard to justify the price
Tried this at a wine bar in London and it really is something special — beautifully focused, clean acidity, long finish that stays with you. But £315 a bottle? I can get three or four really excellent champagnes for that. It's better than most things I've tasted, I just don't know if it's three-times-better.
The real deal
The guy at my local wine shop has been telling me to try Clos des Goisses for years and I finally caved. He was right. It's serious champagne — really structured and precise, not just fizzy fruit juice like a lot of what's out there. Opened it with some friends who know their wine and everyone was impressed.
Good but maybe overhyped?
Had this at a tasting event and I'll be honest, I was expecting to be completely blown away given the price tag and all the hype. It's very good, don't get me wrong — lovely clarity on the nose and a finish that goes on forever. I just think at this price point my expectations were maybe unrealistic.
