First Impressions

Philippe Alexander Cuvee Alex Brut NV Champagne arrives at £34.75, and at this price, it needs to offer genuine quality to stand out in a crowded market. 75cl / 12.5% - Cuvee Alex is Philippe Alexander's non-vintage Champagne. Made with a blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, this is rich and complex with notes of cherry,.

France's winemaking heritage needs no introduction, but the best producers continue to find new ways to express their terroir while honouring centuries of tradition. Philippe Alexander is a name worth knowing in this context.

On the Nose and Palate

The nose offers elegant bouquet of green apple, pear, and toasted hazelnut with a whisper of honeycomb. Moving to the palate, the wine is luxurious mousse delivering ripe fruit, patisserie notes, and a long saline finish. The finish is persistent and precise, with citrus, biscuit, and a beautifully dry, mineral close.

Food Pairing and Serving

Equally at home as an aperitif or alongside seafood, sushi, or delicate canapés. Serve at 8-10°C in proper flutes or, better yet, white wine glasses to appreciate the full bouquet.

The Verdict

Philippe Alexander Cuvee Alex Brut NV Champagne earns a well-deserved 7 out of 10. This is a very good champagne that delivers Pinot Noir with genuine conviction and craft. At £34.75, this represents excellent value for money. Whether you are building a cellar or simply looking for something excellent to drink tonight, this bottle earns its place.

Picked this up for a seafood night at home and it worked brilliantly — that dry, zesty finish cut right through the richness of the prawns. Green apple freshness up front with some toasty hazelnut underneath. Decent Champagne at a reasonable price point, not the best I've had but I'd happily have it again.

Bought this for my wife's birthday and we both really enjoyed it. Lovely creamy bubbles with a biscuity thing going on, and that dry finish meant we polished off the whole bottle without it feeling heavy. At £35 it's not cheap but it's proper Champagne and it tasted like it.

The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something decent but not Moët prices. It's good — nice apple and pear notes, quite crisp and dry. I'd say it's fair for what you pay, though I've had Crémants at half the price that come close.

I'm slowly getting into Champagne beyond the big names and this was a great find. It's 100% Pinot Noir which gives it a bit more body than some fizz I've tried. Got this lovely brioche and stone fruit thing going on, plus a salty mineral edge that keeps you going back for more. Would definitely buy again.

Had this at a friend's dinner party and it was fine, just not sure I'd spend £35 on it myself. The bubbles were nice and smooth and there's a nutty toasty quality I liked, but it didn't really blow me away. Would probably reach for a Prosecco most of the time honestly.
