Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque 2016 Champagne / Formafantasma Glass Pack
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV Perrier-JouëtNice but I expected more wow factor
Don't get me wrong, this is a lovely champagne. Smooth, well balanced, clean finish. But for two hundred quid I wanted fireworks and what I got was more like a really well-made, understated wine. Maybe I just prefer something with a bit more punch. The bottle is gorgeous though, I'll give it that.
This is what champagne should taste like
Had this at a restaurant for a friend's birthday and immediately looked it up to buy a bottle myself. There's a confidence to it — nothing trying too hard, just really precise and layered. Each sip genuinely does reveal something slightly different. I'm not usually a champagne person but this converted me.
Best champagne I've ever had
My brother got me this for my 40th and wow. It's so expressive on the nose, really clean and precise, and the balance between the fruit and the acidity is just spot on. I've had Moët and Veuve plenty of times but this is a completely different level. The fancy glass pack is a nice touch too.
Treated myself and zero regrets
Picked this up after a bonus at work because life's too short. The nose hit me straight away — really expressive and defined without being over the top. And the way the finish just lingers perfectly is chef's kiss. Yes it's £199 but honestly for a 2016 vintage Belle Epoque in that collector packaging, I think it's fair.
Beautiful but a tough spend
Saw this at a tasting event and had to try it. Really well-made champagne — lovely clarity, great depth, long finish. But at £199 I kept thinking I could get three or four really solid bottles of fizz for the same money. Special occasion only for me.
Stunning bottle, stunning wine
The Formafantasma glass pack alone is a work of art, but the champagne inside lives up to it. Clean and precise with a finish that just keeps going. Served it at a dinner party and every single person commented on it.
Really good but not sure it's £200 good
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something impressive for my parents' ruby wedding. It IS impressive — complex, layered, proper grown-up champagne. But honestly at 12.5% and £199 I expected it to completely blow my mind, and it was more quietly excellent than that. Still really enjoyed it though.
Worth every penny for a special night
Bought this for our anniversary and it was absolutely perfect. The bubbles are so fine and elegant, and there's this lovely layered thing going on where every sip tastes a bit different. The bottle with that art nouveau design is genuinely stunning too — my wife wanted to keep it on display after.
