Niepoort Senior Tawny Port
Fortified 20% ABV ABV NiepoortSolid port for the price
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted a decent tawny without spending a fortune. It's got a nice nuttiness and some orange peel thing going on that I really liked. £29 feels about right — not cheap but you can tell it's well made.
Perfect after-dinner sipper
Bought this for Christmas dinner and it was a massive hit. Really rich dried fruit and caramel flavours, almost like drinking a fancy dessert. Smooth as anything too considering it's 20% — dangerous stuff. Will definitely be picking up another bottle.
Birthday treat that delivered
Got this as a birthday present and it's genuinely lovely. The fig and raisin on the nose had me sold before I even tasted it. Goes brilliantly with a cheese board at the end of the night. Warming without being boozy which is impressive at 20%.
Good but not blown away
Had this at a friend's place with some stilton and it was fine. Nice enough walnut and butterscotch flavours but I've had tawnies I've enjoyed more for similar money. Bit sweet for my taste if I'm honest, though my wife loved it.
Reliable port, nothing flashy
Saw Niepoort recommended online somewhere and grabbed a bottle to try. It's a proper tawny — baking spices, dried fruit, bit of caramel. Does what it says on the tin. I'd keep one on the shelf for when people come round but probably wouldn't splash out regularly at this price.
