Niepoort Ruby Dum Port
Fortified 20% ABV ABV NiepoortFine but nearly £24 is a lot
It's a decent port, clean finish and the alcohol doesn't hit you in the face which is nice. But for nearly £24 I'd probably expect a bit more complexity. There are tawnies at this price that give you more to think about.
Really impressed for a ruby port
Picked this up on a whim from my local wine shop and honestly wasn't expecting much from a ruby port at this price. But it's genuinely good — the fruit is really clear and bright, not that syrupy mess you get with cheap ports. Goes down dangerously easy for 20%.
Good not great
Saw this recommended online and thought I'd try it. It's well made and the fruit is nice and clean, I'll give it that. Just didn't blow me away personally — I kept wanting a bit more richness and depth. Might suit people who prefer lighter styles of port.
Birthday present that delivered
Got this as a gift from my daughter. Not usually a port drinker but this was smooth and warming without being heavy. Had it over a couple of evenings after dinner. The 20% ABV sneaks up on you though, fair warning.
Nice recommendation from the shop
The guy in the wine shop suggested this when I said I wanted a port that wasn't too sweet. He was right — it's got a nice acidity to it that keeps things interesting. Warm finish, very easy drinking. Good shout.
Solid everyday port
Got this as an after-dinner thing when mates came round. Everyone liked it, even my friend who normally only drinks beer. Nice balance to it, not too sweet. Would buy again but wouldn't call it life-changing.
Perfect with cheese board
Bought this for Christmas Eve and it was brilliant with stilton and some dark chocolate. Really fruity and fresh without being cloying. My mum kept topping up her glass so that tells you everything really.
Best ruby port I've had at this price
I've tried a few ruby ports and most of them taste like jam with alcohol poured in. This is completely different. Actual structure, proper fruit flavours, and a finish that doesn't make you wince. Niepoort clearly know what they're doing.
