Niepoort Ruby Dum Port / Half Bottle
Fortified 20% ABV ABV NiepoortNiepoort know what they're doing
I've had a few Niepoort ports and this ruby is no exception — really well made. Loads of dark berry compote character on the nose, lovely balance between sweet and acidic. The half bottle format is genius for when you don't want to commit to a full one.
It's fine, nothing special
Decent enough port but I wasn't blown away. The fruit is nice and it goes down easy, but at 20% I was hoping for a bit more punch. Would probably try something else next time at this price.
A bit pricey for a half bottle
The port itself is alright — dark fruit, bit of spice, goes down smooth. But nearly thirteen quid for a half bottle? You can get a full bottle of something decent for that. Would feel better about it at a tenner.
Lovely with cheese
Bought a couple of these half bottles for a dinner party and they went down really well with the cheeseboard. Dark fruity flavours, a little bit of spice, and it doesn't burn on the way down despite being 20%. Everyone asked what it was.
Nice enough for a midweek treat
Saw this on a list of budget ports and thought I'd give it a go. It's pretty good — fruity and smooth with a decent finish. Not the most complex thing I've ever had but honestly at £12.75 for a half bottle it does the job.
Solid for the price
The guy at my local wine shop recommended this when I said I wanted a port for after dinner. It's well balanced and not overly sweet like some cheap ports. The finish is clean and pleasant. Good everyday port if that's a thing.
Great little half bottle
Picked this up for a quiet night in and it was perfect. Really nice dark berry flavours, not too sweet, and the spice keeps it interesting. For under £13 you can't really complain — I'll be grabbing another one.
