Niepoort Lagar de Baixo 2021
Red 14% ABV ABV NiepoortGood but not blown away
Bit pricey for what it is honestly. It's well made and the finish is clean, but for nearly £27 I've had Portuguese reds that excited me more. Would probably pick something else at that price point.
Expected more for the price
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and ordered it. It's fine — nice enough acidity and a clean finish — but nothing really grabbed me. Maybe I caught it on a bad night or it needed more time to breathe. Wouldn't rush to reorder.
Great with a steak night
We had this with ribeyes on Saturday and it was perfect. Loved how it's firm and fruity but also has this real freshness to it. Smells amazing straight out of the bottle too. Going to stock up on a few more for summer barbecues.
Birthday wine that delivered
My wife got me this for my birthday and it was brilliant with a slow-cooked lamb shoulder. 14% but doesn't taste boozy at all, everything just felt balanced. The kind of wine where you keep going back for another glass without thinking about it.
Really impressed with this one
Picked this up after the guy at my local wine shop recommended it. Really expressive nose — you can smell it as soon as you pour and it just keeps getting better the longer it sits. Structured but not heavy, which I appreciate. Would definitely buy again.
Niepoort does it again
I've been getting into Niepoort's stuff lately and this didn't disappoint. Took about 20 minutes in the glass to really open up but once it did the aromas were lovely. Good structure, proper acidity. Not flashy but very well done.
Solid Portuguese red
Had this at a friend's dinner party and went out and bought a bottle the next week. It's got good acidity and depth without being one of those fruit bombs. At £26.50 it's not an everyday wine for me but it's a nice treat.
