Mumm Cordon Rouge Champagne / Magnum
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV MummGreat recommendation from the shop
The guy at my local wine shop suggested this when I said I wanted something special for New Year's. So glad he did. Really expressive nose — you can smell it as soon as you pour — and the taste has proper layers to it without being heavy. 12.5% is a sweet spot too, nobody was falling over by midnight.
Nice but bit steep
Got this as a birthday present and it's a really pleasant champagne — smooth, balanced, lingers nicely after each sip. But nearly £95 is a lot of money and I'm not sure it's that much better than a £40-50 bottle honestly. The magnum is impressive on the table though, I'll give it that.
Absolutely stunning
The magnum format makes such a difference with this one. Poured beautifully all evening and the flavours just kept opening up as the night went on — lovely fruit, bright acidity, proper complexity. My new go-to for celebrations.
Perfect for the big occasion
Bought the magnum for my wife's 40th and it was a hit. Really crisp and fresh but with enough going on to keep you interested — not just bubbles and nothing else. At £95 for a magnum it's actually not bad value when you think about it, worked out cheaper per glass than buying two regular bottles of something decent.
Solid champagne, does what it says
Had this at a friend's wedding and liked it enough to track down a bottle myself. It's clean and well balanced with nice fruity depth that doesn't get lost in the fizz. Not the most exciting champagne I've ever had but genuinely enjoyable and easy to drink. Would buy again for a dinner party.
Reliable and classy
I keep coming back to Mumm because you know what you're getting. This magnum is generous and well-structured, good acidity that keeps it fresh glass after glass. Not the cheapest option out there but it's a crowd pleaser and the finish keeps you going back for more. Shared it over a long Sunday lunch and it was lovely.
