Mount Langi Ghiran Grampians 'Cliff Edge' Shiraz 2022: Dark Fruit Elegance
Red 14.8% ABV ABV Mount LangiReally impressive for the price
Picked this up from Majestic on a whim and honestly glad I did. Really dark and fruity, almost like blackberry jam but not sweet if that makes sense. The spice on it is lovely too. At £22 this is going on my regular rotation.
Punches above its weight
The guy at my local wine shop recommended this and said it was great value for Grampians shiraz. He wasn't wrong. There's a real savoury herby quality underneath all the dark fruit that keeps you coming back for more. Smashed it with a steak on the BBQ last weekend.
One of my favourite finds this year
Brought this to a dinner party and everyone was asking about it. It's got this amazing dark berry and spice thing going on, almost smoky, and it just kept opening up in the glass. At under 15% it doesn't taste as boozy as you'd expect either. Already ordered another couple of bottles.
Good but a bit much for me
My partner loves big Australian shiraz so I got this for his birthday. It's very dark and intense, loads of black fruit and a sort of liquorice thing going on. Personally I found it a bit heavy — I tend to prefer lighter reds. He absolutely loved it though so I can't complain.
Nice but maybe slightly overpriced
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and looked it up afterwards. It's good — dark fruit, bit of leather and smoke, finishes clean. But at £22 a bottle I feel like you can find similar quality for a few quid less. That said the tannins are really smooth for a young shiraz so fair play.
Solid weeknight red
Had this with a slow-cooked lamb shoulder and it was a great match. Quite full on and peppery, decent tannins but nothing that dries your mouth out. Not the most exciting wine I've ever had but I'd happily buy it again.
