Morgon Vieilles Vignes Guy Breton 2023
Red 14% ABV ABV Guy BretonOld vines doing their thing
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and ordered a glass out of curiosity. Glad I did. There's a real concentration and depth to it that you don't always get from Beaujolais — the old vine fruit really comes through. Finish just lingers nicely without being heavy. Tracked down a bottle to have at home with some charcuterie and it was just as good.
Birthday treat that delivered
My wife bought this for my birthday dinner and we both loved it. Really expressive nose, and the balance between the ripe fruit and the acidity is spot on. We finished the bottle way too quickly. At 14% it sneaks up on you though, fair warning!
Really impressed with this one
Picked this up after the guy at my local wine shop recommended it. Honestly one of the best Beaujolais I've had — loads of fruit but not jammy or sweet, just really vibrant and fresh. Had it with a slow-cooked lamb shoulder and it was perfect. At £39 it's not an everyday bottle but I'd absolutely buy it again for a nice occasion.
Good but a bit steep
Got this as part of a mixed case and it's nice enough — aromatic, good depth, keeps you coming back for another sip. But nearly £40 for a Morgon feels like a lot when you can get solid ones for £20. I'd give it another go if it was on offer.
