Matetic Corralillo Carmenere 2024: Dark Fruit Elegance
Red 14% ABV ABV MateticReally impressed with this one
Bought this for a dinner party and it went down really well. Loads of dark plum and blackberry flavour, and there's this smoky thing going on that I loved. Tannins are firm but not harsh. Would definitely buy again.
Nice birthday treat
Got this as a birthday present from my sister. Not a grape I'd tried before but I really enjoyed it. Rich and fruity with some herby notes and a long dry finish. Not sure I'd spend £20 on it myself regularly but it does feel a bit special.
Perfect with steak
Had this with a ribeye and honestly it was brilliant. The dark chocolate and plum flavours really come through and the black pepper on the finish is gorgeous. At 14% it's got some heft to it but doesn't taste boozy at all.
Solid Chilean red
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something different from Malbec. Carmenere is such an underrated grape. You get big dark fruit and a peppery finish that lingers. At just under twenty quid it's fair value for what you get.
Good but a bit much for me
Picked this up after reading about it online. It's quite intense — very bold and smoky with big tannins. I prefer something a bit lighter so it wasn't totally my thing. Having said that, the quality is clearly there and it worked better with food than on its own.
Best Carmenere I've had
I've been getting into Chilean wines lately and this is a standout. The nose is incredible — plum, vanilla, dark chocolate all layered together. Savoury and smoky on the palate with a finish that just goes on and on. Already ordered another bottle.
