Lustau VORS Pedro Ximenez 30 Year Old Sherry
Fortified 20% ABV ABV LustauAmazing but hard to justify the price
Look, this is genuinely delicious — burnt caramel, raisins, espresso, all that good stuff. The finish goes on forever. But £85 for a sherry is a tough sell when you can get a solid PX for a third of the price. I'd buy it again for a special occasion but not as a regular thing.
Best dessert wine I've ever had
The guy at my local wine shop talked me into this and I'm so glad he did. Incredibly sweet but it doesn't feel sickly at all, there's this lovely bitter chocolate thing going on that balances it out. Poured it over vanilla ice cream too and honestly that might be the best dessert I've ever made. 30 years in barrel and you can taste every one of them.
Tried this at a tapas place and had to track it down
Had a glass of this at a restaurant and spent the next two weeks trying to find a bottle. It's so rich and concentrated, like date syrup with coffee. Sipped it after dinner with some dark chocolate and it was perfect. Not cheap but it's 30 years old so fair enough really.
Liquid Christmas cake
Bought this as a treat for my dad's 60th and we ended up sharing the whole bottle after dinner. It's like drinking the most intense Christmas pudding you've ever had — all figs and dates and coffee. Properly special stuff, worth every penny of the £85.
