Lustau San Emilio Pedro Ximénez Sherry
Fortified 20% ABV ABV LustauSolid PX, does what it should
I've tried a few Pedro Ximénez sherries now and this is a reliable one. Not the absolute best I've had but at this price point it's hard to complain. Clean finish that doesn't leave your mouth feeling sticky which is a problem with cheaper PX. Would buy again but wouldn't rush out for it.
Great little after-dinner pour
Had this at a tapas restaurant and liked it enough to track down a bottle. The smell hits you straight away — dried fruits, almost like fig jam. It's sweet but has enough going on that it doesn't feel one-note. Good stuff for the price.
Nice but very sweet for me
The guy at the wine shop recommended this when I said I wanted something different. It's well made and you can tell it's quality, but honestly it's sweeter than I expected even for a PX sherry. I had a small glass after dinner and that was plenty. Might work better as a dessert pairing than on its own.
Converted my partner to sherry
My other half always said she hated sherry because her nan used to drink that pale dry stuff. Poured her a glass of this and she was genuinely shocked at how different it is. Super rich, loads of depth, and the sweetness is balanced really well. We finished the bottle over a weekend with some dark chocolate. Already ordered another one.
Christmas in a glass
Bought this for after Christmas dinner and it was a massive hit. Poured it over vanilla ice cream too which was incredible. Really rich and sweet but not in a sickly way — there's something almost raisiny and treacly about it that just works. At £28 it's not cheap but you don't need much per serving so it lasts.
