Louis Roederer Cristal 2013 Rosé Champagne
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV Louis RoedererThe best thing I've ever drunk
The wine shop guy talked me into this for a big family celebration and I'm so glad he did. Rose petal, strawberry, this amazing brioche warmth — and then a clean chalky finish that just keeps going. I'm not a champagne expert by any means but even I could tell this was on another level.
Worth every ridiculous penny
Bought this for our 10th wedding anniversary and honestly it might have been the highlight of the evening (sorry, husband). The strawberry and brioche thing everyone talks about is real — it's like the fanciest breakfast you've ever had in a glass. Finish goes on forever. Yes it's £635 but some things in life you just do once.
Bit overhyped?
Don't get me wrong, this is a lovely champagne. The citrus and red berry flavours are gorgeous and it's incredibly smooth. But at over six hundred quid I was expecting to see God or something. It's a 9 out of 10 champagne with a 15 out of 10 price tag.
Lovely but I expected more for the money
Tried this at a tasting event and it's definitely good. Nice acidity, red fruit, interesting spicy and slightly smoky notes. But I kept thinking about what else I could buy for £635 and honestly I think I'd rather have four bottles of something excellent than one bottle of this. Still glad I tried it though.
Finally tried it at a restaurant
Saw this on the wine list at a place in Mayfair and thought sod it, you only live once. The blood orange note really comes through and there's this chalky mineral thing underneath that keeps you going back for another sip. Absolutely stunning champagne, though I'd never be able to justify buying a whole bottle for home.
Opened it for New Year's and wow
We saved this for midnight on NYE and it was genuinely special. There's a nuttiness to it, almost like toasted hazelnuts, mixed with strawberry and something minerally I can't quite place. Everyone at the table went quiet for a second after the first sip which tells you everything.
Beautiful but the price stings
Got given this as a birthday present and I can see why people rave about it. Really elegant, loads of red fruit and a smoky edge I wasn't expecting. But if I'm being honest, I've had champagnes at half the price that got me nearly as excited. The finish is class though, properly long.
