L'Ormarins Method Cap Classique Blanc de Blancs 2021: Bubbles with Real Depth
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV L'OrmarinsBit pricey for what it is
Had this at a friend's house and thought it was decent but probably wouldn't buy it myself at nearly £22. It's smooth and the lemon curd flavour is genuinely lovely, but I've had South African sparklings at £12-15 that I've enjoyed just as much. One for when someone else is paying.
Nice bubbles, not quite Champagne though
The wine shop guy recommended this as a Champagne alternative and I can see why — it's got that bready, biscuity quality and the bubbles are really fine. Picked up some pear and peach which was nice. Good but I think calling it Champagne-level is a stretch, it's more like a really solid sparkling wine.
Proper treat for the price
Bought this for my wife's birthday dinner and we were both really impressed. You get that lovely toasty brioche thing going on, plus it's got this lemony freshness that keeps you coming back for more. At £22 it's not cheap for a midweek bottle but for a celebration it's absolutely worth it.
Goes down dangerously easy
Opened this for a girls' night and we demolished two bottles before the starter was even out. It's really elegant without being boring — there's a honeyed richness to it that I wasn't expecting and it finishes so clean. Already ordered more for the summer. Would be amazing with some good cheese and crackers.
