Lindisfarne Spiced Mead
Red 14% ABV ABV LindisfarneHoliday treat
We grab a bottle of this every time we visit Lindisfarne, it's basically tradition at this point. The spice keeps it interesting and it's not as cloyingly sweet as some meads I've tried. £12 feels fair for something a bit different. My wife prefers the original but I like the extra warmth from the spices.
Decent novelty bottle
Saw this recommended online and thought I'd give it a go. It's alright — smells gorgeous, all honey and Christmas spices, but drinking it I wanted a bit more acidity to balance the sweetness. Good conversation starter when mates come round though.
Absolutely smashed this on a cold evening
Opened this on a freezing Saturday night and it was perfect. Warming, spicy, and the honey flavour is really well done — sweet but not in a cheap way. The finish is clean and kind of makes you want another sip straight away. At £12.25 I think it's a bargain for something this interesting. Already ordered two more.
Not really my thing
Got this as a birthday present from my brother who knows I like trying different stuff. It's fine but it's basically spiced honey wine and I found it a bit one-note after half a glass. The spice is nice enough but at 14% it crept up on me faster than expected. Wouldn't seek it out myself.
Great with a cheeseboard
Bought a bottle for a dinner party and served it alongside some strong cheddar and blue cheese. It went down really well actually — the honey sweetness works brilliantly against salty cheese. Not something I'd drink on its own every night but as an after-dinner thing with food it's a solid shout.
Proper nice for the price
Picked this up at a gift shop near Holy Island and honestly didn't expect much. Really pleasantly surprised — the honey comes through straight away but it's not sickly sweet, and there's a warm spice thing going on that makes it feel quite grown up. Would definitely buy again at £12.
