Lindisfarne Rhubarb Wine
Red 14% ABV ABV LindisfarneHoliday favourite!
We go to Northumberland every year and always bring a few bottles of this back. The rhubarb taste is lovely — earthy and sharp like proper garden rhubarb, not that artificial stuff. My wife and I can easily get through a bottle on a Friday night. One of those wines that just makes you happy.
Way better than expected
I'm not usually into fruit wines at all but someone recommended this and I'm glad I tried it. It's well balanced, not too sweet, and has a nice clean finish that makes you want another glass. Under a tenner as well which is a bonus.
It's fine but not really my thing
My aunt brought this round for Sunday lunch. It's okay — tastes like stewed rhubarb which I suppose is the point, but I kept wishing it was just a normal red. Fair play though, it's not as sugary as I expected and you can't really taste the 14% which is dangerous.
Decent with a cheese board
Bought a bottle of this for a dinner party because I wanted something a bit different. It went down well with the cheese board — that tangy rhubarb flavour works surprisingly well with strong cheddar. Not something I'd drink every week but it's a good conversation starter.
Really nice for a fruit wine
Picked this up at the Lindisfarne gift shop on a trip to Holy Island and honestly didn't expect much. But it's properly good — the rhubarb flavour is really clear and sharp without being too sweet. At £9.50 it's a nice little souvenir that you'll actually enjoy drinking.
Good novelty buy
Saw this in a farm shop and thought why not. It's genuinely drinkable — the rhubarb is front and centre but there's a bit of depth to it too, sort of stewed fruit and earthiness. Had it slightly chilled with a roast pork dinner and it worked a treat. Wouldn't call it complex but it does what it does well.
Interesting but a bit niche
Got this as a birthday present from a friend who knows I like trying unusual wines. It's well made for what it is — clean acidity, no weird aftertaste, and the alcohol is well hidden for 14%. But at the end of the day it's rhubarb wine and I'd rather spend £9.50 on a Malbec.
