Lindisfarne Ginger Wine
Red 14% ABV ABV LindisfarneDecent for what it is
Saw this in the gift shop at Holy Island and thought why not. It smells exactly like you'd expect — warm ginger, quite aromatic. Tastes better than most ginger wines I've tried, not too sugary and the finish lingers nicely. At £9.50 it's fair enough, wouldn't rush to buy it again but glad I tried it.
Perfect winter warmer
I heat this up gently in a pan and it's absolutely gorgeous on a cold night. The ginger is bang on — warming without burning your throat, and there's a fruity depth underneath that rounds it out. Clean finish too, doesn't leave that cloying aftertaste some sweet wines do. Under a tenner as well, can't complain.
Not really my thing
My aunt bought this for Christmas and we cracked it open after dinner. It's very ginger-forward which I guess is the point, but I found it a bit sweet for my taste. The 14% ABV sneaks up on you though, I'll give it that. Would probably work better as a mixer than on its own.
Great with a cheese board
A mate recommended this and I grabbed a bottle to have with some strong cheddar and crackers. Works brilliantly — the ginger warmth and the cheese are a proper combo. It's got more going on than I expected, nice balance between the sweet and the spicy. Will definitely keep a bottle around for when people come over.
Bit too sweet but drinkable
Tried this at a friend's dinner party and had mixed feelings. The ginger flavour is genuine and quite pleasant, and you can tell it's not just cheap plonk with flavouring chucked in. But even though it's not AS sweet as I feared, it's still sweeter than I'd like. The 14% alcohol is well hidden which is either a plus or a danger depending on your perspective.
Nice gift, wouldn't buy for myself
Got this as a birthday present from someone who knows I like trying different wines. It's interesting — definitely more of a novelty than something I'd drink regularly. The ginger aroma hits you straight away and the taste follows through. Reasonably well made but I tend to prefer a normal red at this price point.
Lovely little find on holiday
Picked this up visiting Lindisfarne and honestly wasn't expecting much from a ginger wine. Really surprised me though — the ginger comes through strong but it's not overpowering, and there's a nice fruity sweetness underneath. For under a tenner it's a proper treat, especially warmed up on a cold evening.
