Les Cretes La Sabla 2021
Red 14% ABV ABV Les CretesPunches above its weight
Saw this on a restaurant menu and ordered a glass out of curiosity. Ended up tracking down a bottle to buy. There's a real depth to it that I wasn't expecting — proper layered flavours and a finish that sticks around. You wouldn't guess it's 14% either, it's really well balanced.
Really impressed with this one
Picked this up from a wine shop in town after the guy behind the counter recommended it. Really dark fruity nose, almost like blackcurrants, and it drinks so smoothly for 14%. Had it with a slow-cooked beef stew and it was perfect. Will definitely buy again.
Expected more honestly
Maybe I caught it on an off day but this didn't wow me. The fruit is there and it's clearly well made, but for nearly £24 I've had more exciting bottles. It's fine, just nothing that made me want to rush out and buy another one. Might improve with a year or two sitting around.
Great dinner party wine
Brought this to a friend's birthday dinner and it went down really well. Good dark fruit flavours and it's got a bit of weight to it without being heavy. Everyone asked what it was, so that's always a good sign.
Decent Italian red
I don't know loads about wine but I know what I like, and this was pretty good. Nice and fruity on the nose, not too harsh. Had it with pasta and it worked well. The acidity cuts through rich food which is what I want from a red.
Nice but a bit steep
It's a solid red, well made and everything, but £23.50 feels like a lot for a midweek bottle. The finish is lovely and clean, I'll give it that. I'd grab it on offer but probably wouldn't pay full price regularly.
