Laurent Habrard Crozes Hermitage Rouge Sans Souffre Ajoute 2023: A Red of Genuine Distinction
Red 13.5% ABV ABV Laurent HabrardProper grown-up wine
Saw this on a restaurant menu and liked it so much I tracked down a bottle to have at home. That graphite and dark berry combo is really moreish. Tannins are firm but not harsh — I reckon this could age a bit too if you're patient. I am not patient.
Nice but a bit steep
Got this on a recommendation from my local wine shop. It's perfectly pleasant — dark berries, smoky finish — but for over £30 I expected something that would blow me away. It didn't quite get there for me. Good with a steak though.
Birthday treat that delivered
My partner got me this for my birthday and I'm glad they did. There's a lovely blackberry and thyme thing happening, almost like the French countryside in a glass. Really smooth for something with proper structure to it. Will be hunting down more Laurent Habrard.
Goes brilliantly with lamb
Had this with a slow-cooked lamb shoulder on Sunday and it was a great match. The smoky oak and berry flavours worked perfectly. Not too heavy at 13.5% either so I didn't feel wiped out after two glasses.
Expected more honestly
I keep hearing about natural/no-sulphur wines so I gave this a go. It's fine, nice dark fruit and a mineral-ish finish, but I'm not sure what makes it worth £31 when I can get a decent Côtes du Rhône for half that. Maybe I'm missing something.
Really impressed with this one
Bought this for a dinner party and it was the star of the evening. Loads of dark berry flavour with a nice smoky thing going on. Everyone kept asking what it was. At around £31 it's not cheap but felt worth it for the quality.
Solid Northern Rhône red
I've been getting into Crozes Hermitage lately and this is a good example. The no-added-sulphur thing had me curious and it's clean and well-made, not funky at all. Dark fruit, bit of herbs, decent tannic structure. Would buy again.
Interesting pick for a no-sulphur wine
I'm still pretty new to wine but I've been trying to learn more about natural stuff. This was way better than some of the cloudy funky ones I've had before. Tastes like proper blackberry jam with some herby notes. My mate who knows more about wine than me said it was legit so I'll take that as a win.
