Laherte Freres Ultradition Extra Brut Champagne: Elegance Worth Celebrating
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV LaherteGood but maybe overhyped?
Had this at a friend's dinner party and it was nice enough but I'm not sure it's £50+ nice. The bubbles were super fine and delicate which was cool, and there was a strawberry thing on the nose I liked. Just felt like I could get something nearly as good for £35.
Solid Champagne, nice change of pace
The guy at my local wine shop recommended this when I said I was bored of Moët. It's drier than what I'm used to (it's extra brut so barely any sugar) but once I got used to that, the almond and lemon flavours were really pleasant. Would buy again but maybe not every week at that price.
Birthday treat that delivered
Bought this for my 40th and it was genuinely lovely. Really fine bubbles, not aggressive at all, and I got this amazing brioche thing going on with a bit of citrus. At £51.50 it's not cheap but for a birthday Champagne? Totally worth it.
Proper grower Champagne
I've been getting into smaller Champagne producers lately and Laherte is the real deal. The minerality and that chalky dry finish are what set this apart from the big house stuff. The brioche and almond notes develop beautifully as it warms up a bit in the glass. One of my favourites under £55.
Bit too dry for me personally
I can tell this is well made and the bubbles are incredibly fine and smooth. But I tend to prefer my fizz a little sweeter and this is bone dry. My partner loved it though so maybe it's just a taste thing. The citrus and almond flavours were nice, just wished it had a touch more fruit sweetness.
Great for a dinner party
Served this as an aperitif when we had people over and everyone commented on it. It's got Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier in it which apparently is a classic blend. Dry and elegant — went down really well with the smoked salmon starters.
This stuff is dangerous
So easy to drink. You pour a glass thinking you'll savour it and before you know it half the bottle's gone. Really crisp with lovely citrus and a sort of bready richness underneath. Me and my wife polished off two bottles over a long Sunday lunch. No regrets.
Picked this up at random
Grabbed this off the shelf because the label looked interesting and I fancied something different. Pleasant surprise — really light and fresh with strawberry and rose petal on the nose. It's extra brut so quite dry, which I actually prefer. Decent Champagne for the money.
