First Impressions

Laherte Freres Les Grandes Crayeres 2020 arrives at £85.75 for 75cl, and at this price point, expectations are rightly elevated. This vintage comes from two very chalky parcels of land that give it a chalky, mineral character that makes it feel like a top-class Chablis with bubbles. A wine that needs time to open

This producer operates in a region that continues to deliver impressive quality and character. Laherte is a name worth knowing in this context.

Picked this up for Christmas dinner and it was a hit. Really smooth with loads of flavour — the stone fruit and that toasty warmth go brilliantly with richer food. The 12.5% ABV means it's easy drinking too, which is dangerous when it tastes this good.

The wine shop guy recommended this over a Bollinger and I can see why — it's more interesting, more layered, with a nice chalky dry finish. But at nearly £86 a bottle I'm not sure I'd buy it again when there are solid options for half that.

I'm still fairly new to champagne beyond the big names, so I wasn't sure what to expect. There's a hazelnut and pastry thing happening that I really enjoyed, and it's got a nice crisp acidity so it doesn't feel heavy. Would definitely try more from Laherte.

Saw this on a wine list and figured I'd try the bottle at home. It's nice — creamy, bit of baked apple, dry finish — but I expected to be more blown away for the price. Had it with roast chicken and it worked well enough. Solid 7.

Absolutely loved this. The finish goes on forever, kind of almondy and citrusy, and the bubbles are super fine. Shared it with my partner on our anniversary and we both agreed it's the best champagne we've had outside of a restaurant.

Bought this for my 40th and wow, it did not disappoint. The baked apple and nutty thing going on is gorgeous, and it's got this creamy richness that just keeps going. Properly special bottle.

Had this at a friend's dinner party and immediately asked what it was. Lovely toasty quality with stone fruit flavours that feel really well put together. At £85 it's not cheap but it's genuinely a step up from the usual stuff.
