La Gitana Amontillado Seco Napoleon / Hidalgo
Red 14% ABV ABV HidalgoGood but not quite my thing
Bought this for a dinner party thinking it'd be a fun aperitif. It's well made and the flavours are interesting — sort of nutty and layered — but I think I just prefer something a bit fruitier. My mate who's more into sherry absolutely loved it though.
Bit pricey for what it is
It's fine. Clean and dry with some depth to it but honestly for £16.50 I expected to be more wowed. I've had cheaper sherries that I enjoyed just as much. Finish is nice though, I'll give it that.
Birthday treat that delivered
My partner got me this for my birthday knowing I've been getting into fortified wines lately. The nose is gorgeous — really confident and aromatic without being overpowering. Lasted us a few evenings and it actually got better each time we opened it.
Nice with food, less exciting on its own
Had this alongside some tapas and it was great — the dry acidity cuts through richer dishes really well. On its own I found it a bit austere but that's probably the point. Decent value at around £16.
Where has this been all my life
I'm fairly new to sherry beyond the sweet stuff at Christmas and wow, this is a different world. Really dry and balanced, and at 14% it doesn't hit you over the head. Goes brilliantly with hard cheese and charcuterie.
Solid amontillado for the price
Got this on recommendation from the guy at my local wine shop. It's dry and savoury with a nice clean finish that keeps you coming back. Not mind-blowing but definitely a reliable bottle I'd buy again.
Really impressed with this
Picked this up after seeing it on a sherry list at a tapas place. For £16.50 this is genuinely complex stuff — nutty, dry, loads going on in the glass. Been sipping it slightly chilled with almonds and olives and it's perfect.
