Mei-Lin Wu VIPsAllowed - Decent Côtes du Rhône

I'm still learning about wine but I know I like southern French reds and this one didn't disappoint. Dark fruit, quite smooth, clean finish. Not the most exciting bottle I've ever had but I'd happily drink it again.

Not bad, not amazing. Smells nice enough — dark berries and a bit of that herby southern France thing. But for nearly £14 I expected a bit more complexity. Would probably pick something else next time unless it was on offer.

Bought a case of this on a trip through the Rhône valley last summer. Really nice fruity red, goes down easy and the acidity stops it feeling too heavy even at 14%. My wife and I have been rationing the last few bottles because we can't find it locally!

Saw this on a restaurant wine list and ordered it on a whim for my birthday dinner. Genuinely impressed — loads of ripe dark fruit, nicely balanced, and it kept getting better as the evening went on. Tracked it down online afterwards for £13.50 which feels like a steal compared to what we paid at the restaurant.

Had this at a friend's dinner party and it was perfectly drinkable but I wouldn't rush out to buy it. Bit pricey for what it is honestly. You can get a decent Côtes du Rhône for a few quid less that does the same job.

Grabbed this from the wine shop on the corner because the guy behind the counter said it was good value. He wasn't wrong — proper dark fruit flavours, not too heavy, not too light. At £13.50 it's become my go-to for pasta nights.

Alex Ramos VIPsAllowed - Nice with food, less so on its own

Opened this with a slow-cooked lamb shoulder and it was great — the dark berry fruit and that herby warmth really worked with the meat. Tried the last glass on its own the next day and it felt a bit one-note. Definitely a food wine.
