La Cayetana Cabernet Franc 2023: Bold Character, Lasting Impression
Red 14% ABV ABV La CayetanaNot really for me
I usually go for lighter reds and this was a bit much. Very dark and intense on the nose with all the clove and anise stuff. My partner loved it though so maybe it's just not my thing.
Great with steak night
The guy at our local wine shop recommended this and he wasn't wrong. Loads of dark fruit and a nice peppery kick that was perfect with ribeye. Finished the bottle way too quickly.
Punches above its weight
Saw this on a menu at a wine bar and ordered a glass on a whim. The finish is what got me — it just keeps going with this clean mineral thing that makes you want another sip. Went back and bought a bottle to take home.
Really impressed with this one
Bought this for a dinner party and it was a proper hit. Love the peppery thing going on, it went brilliantly with a slow-cooked lamb shoulder. Would definitely buy again at that price.
Birthday treat that delivered
Got this as a birthday present from my brother and really enjoyed it. There's a lovely earthy quality to it, like autumn leaves or something, and the berry flavours are gorgeous. At 14% it's got some warmth to it too. Will be tracking down another bottle.
Good not great
Bit pricey for what it is if I'm honest. It's a perfectly nice red — fruity, bit of spice — but at nearly £23 I'd want a bit more going on. I've had better Cab Francs for less.
Decent midweek upgrade
Picked this up wanting something a step up from my usual £10 bottles and yeah, you can taste the difference. The berry fruit is really juicy and fresh and there's a nice savoury edge to it. Not sure I'd buy it every week at that price but it's a solid treat wine.
Solid Cab Franc
I'm a big Cab Franc fan and this is a nice example. You get that classic blackberry and spice thing on the nose and it drinks really well. Not the most complex wine I've ever had but it's honest and well made for the money.
