Kopke 30 Year Old Tawny Port
Fortified 20% ABV ABV KopkeThis stuff is dangerous
Had this at a restaurant and immediately went online to find a bottle. At 20% ABV it goes down way too easily for how strong it is. There's so much going on — dried fruit, something nutty, a bit of caramel — and it all just works together. Poured some with a cheese board last weekend and my friends were fighting over the last glass.
Birthday treat that delivered
Got this as a 30th birthday present to myself because, well, 30 year old port for turning 30. Absolutely worth it. The sweetness is there but it's not syrupy at all — there's this bright acidity that keeps you coming back for more. Lasted me a whole week of small glasses after dinner and every sip was brilliant.
Solid pick for port lovers
Picked this up on a trip to Porto and brought it home in my suitcase like a madman. Clean finish with no harsh burn, which is what I want from an aged tawny. Sweet but balanced — my wife who normally doesn't like port actually enjoyed it. Would pair it with strong cheese or just drink it on its own after a big meal.
Really good but hard to justify the price
Look, this is lovely port — smooth, concentrated, long finish that just goes on and on. But £75 is a lot of money and I'm not sure I could tell the difference between this and a decent 20 year tawny in a blind test. Great for impressing guests though, and the Kopke name carries weight if anyone at the table knows their port.
Proper after-dinner stuff
The guy at the wine shop recommended this when I said I wanted something special for Christmas dinner. It's rich and complex but still really easy to drink. Not cheap at £76 but honestly for a 30 year old port it's not bad value either. Will definitely buy again for special occasions.
