Kopke 1957 Colheita Port
Fortified 20% ABV ABV KopkeBirthday treat done right
Bought this for my own 40th because why not. The nose hit me straight away — really expressive and clear, none of that dusty old wine thing I was worried about. Finish goes on forever in the best way. Felt properly luxurious without being pretentious.
Once in a lifetime bottle
My father-in-law turned 80 and we splashed out on this. 1957 — the year he was born. Everyone went quiet after the first sip, genuinely emotional moment. The wine itself is incredible, so smooth and balanced with this long finish that just keeps going. Worth every penny for what it meant to us.
Impressive old port
Shared this with a mate who's big into port and even he was nodding along. Lovely structure, not too sweet, and you genuinely can't feel the 20% alcohol which is mad. I probably wouldn't buy it again purely because of the price, but as a special occasion pour it's hard to argue with.
Stunning but your wallet will feel it
Tried this at a port tasting event and it blew everything else on the table away. Really clean and focused for something nearly 70 years old, and the acidity keeps it fresh rather than heavy. At £347 it's obviously not an everyday buy but if you're into aged ports this is the real deal.
Great port, hard price tag
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something special for an anniversary. It IS excellent — balanced, clean finish, complex flavours that shift around as you drink it. But £347 is a lot and I've had colheitas at half the price that got me 80% of the way there. No regrets though.
