Kopke 10 Year Old Tawny Port / Half Bottle
Fortified 20% ABV ABV KopkeSolid tawny port
Had this at a friend's house and liked it enough to grab one myself. Nice dried fruit and orange peel thing going on. It's well balanced and doesn't have that sickly sweetness some ports get. Good but not mind-blowing.
Birthday present winner
Got this as part of a birthday gift set for my dad who loves port. He absolutely loved it. Said the walnut and dried apricot notes reminded him of ones he'd had in Portugal. The half bottle size is actually great for gifting too.
Decent but a bit steep
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted a port for under £20. It's nice enough — toffee and plum flavours, goes down smooth. But £17.25 for a half bottle? You can get a full bottle of perfectly good ruby port for less. Hard to justify buying again.
Genuinely impressed
I'm still fairly new to port but I've been trying a few different ones lately. This is probably my favourite so far. There's so much going on — plum, spice, a bit of orange peel, some nuttiness. Really smooth finish too. The half bottle is handy since a little goes a long way with port.
Nice with dark chocolate
Poured this alongside some 70% dark chocolate after a dinner party and it was a great combo. The spice and toffee in the port work really well with chocolate. Not too sweet which I appreciated. Would buy again for entertaining.
Perfect after-dinner sipper
Bought the half bottle to try with some cheese after Christmas dinner and it was a hit. Lovely caramel and nutty flavours, really warming without being too boozy despite the 20%. At £17 for a half bottle it's not cheap but honestly worth it for a treat.
Good not great
Saw this on a restaurant menu and ordered a glass, then tracked down a bottle. It's a nice tawny with good acidity that stops it being too heavy. The caramel and dried fruit flavours are pleasant. Kopke clearly know what they're doing but I've had 10 year tawnies I liked more for similar money.
