Jacques Lassaigne Les Vignes de Montgueux / Magnum
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV Jacques LassaigneGood not great for me
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and decided to splash out. It's decent — smooth, well made, nothing to complain about really. Just didn't blow me away the way I expected for the price point. My partner loved it though so maybe it's just me. The balance between fruit and acidity was nice, I'll give it that.
Christmas Day winner
Had this on Christmas Day and it was perfect. Really confident Champagne if that makes sense — you pop it open and immediately get hit with these clear, defined aromas. Went brilliantly with the smoked salmon starter. The magnum format meant there was enough to keep topping up through the afternoon too.
Really nice but hard to justify the price
Look, this is lovely Champagne. Well balanced, clean finish, proper stuff. But £130 is a lot of money and I'm not sure I could tell the difference between this and something at £80 in a blind tasting. Would I buy it again for a special occasion? Probably. Every week? Definitely not.
Worth every penny for a celebration
Bought the magnum for my wife's 40th and it was the star of the evening. Really expressive straight from the pour — didn't need to sit around waiting for it to open up. Everyone kept going back for more, which is saying something when there's also a bar tab running. At £130 for a magnum it's actually not bad value per glass.
Best Champagne I've had in ages
The guy at my local wine shop pointed me towards Lassaigne and I'm so glad he did. There's genuine depth here, layers of flavour that keep unfolding the more you drink. The finish just hangs around perfectly — not too long, not too short. I've had Champagnes at twice the price that don't come close.
Solid pick from Montgueux
Been getting into grower Champagnes lately and Lassaigne is one of the better ones I've tried. Nice structure, good acidity without being sharp, and enough body to feel satisfying. The finish keeps you coming back for another sip which is always a good sign. Would recommend if you're looking to branch out from the big houses.
