Hermitage Blanc Les Rocules Laurent Habrard 2017: Crisp and Compelling
White 14% ABV ABV Laurent HabrardStunning white, worth every penny
Picked this up after the guy at my local wine shop raved about it. The peach and lemon thing going on is gorgeous — it's rich but not heavy at all. That dry, chalky finish is something else. Honestly one of the best whites I've had this year.
Really nice but pricey
Saw this on a restaurant menu and figured why not. It's a lovely wine — buttery but not overdone, with nice lemony freshness. At £55 though I'm not sure I'd buy it regularly for home. Would definitely order it again on a night out.
Absolutely blown away
I don't usually go for Marsanne/Roussanne blends but this has completely changed my mind. There's this mineral, almost salty quality underneath the fruit that keeps you coming back for more. The finish just goes on and on. Already ordered another bottle.
Great for a special dinner
Bought this for my wife's birthday dinner and it went down a treat with roast chicken. Really liked the citrus and stone fruit combo. Bit more than I'd normally spend on a bottle but it felt like a proper occasion wine.
Good not great
Maybe I expected too much but while this is a solid white it didn't quite wow me. The citrus and peach flavours are nice and I liked the dry finish. Just felt like for £55 I've had more exciting bottles. My partner loved it though so maybe it's just me.
Northern Rhône whites are underrated
Been getting into Hermitage whites lately and this one from Laurent Habrard is a cracker. Melon and white peach on the nose, then it tightens right up on the palate with proper mineral backbone. 14% ABV but you'd never guess it — drinks way lighter than that.
