Henri Giraud Fut de Chene MV20 Champagne
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV Henri GiraudServed this at our dinner party
Opened this for a small dinner party with friends who are into their wine. Everyone was impressed. It's got real structure and the acidity keeps it fresh even though there's a lot going on flavour-wise. The mousse is incredibly fine — felt almost creamy. Paired brilliantly with the seafood starter.
Worth every penny for a special night
Bought this for our anniversary and wow, it did not disappoint. There's this lovely richness to it that's completely different from your standard champagne — you can tell the oak ageing does something special. The bubbles are super fine and it just keeps giving you more flavour the longer you sit with it.
Really good but not £178 good
Look, this is a lovely champagne. The oak gives it an interesting character and it's clearly well made. But at this price point I kept comparing it to other things I could buy, and I'm not sure it's twice as good as an £80 bottle. Maybe I'm just not refined enough to fully appreciate it.
Christmas treat
Splashed out on this for Christmas Day and it was the highlight of the meal honestly. Really expressive on the nose — you notice it straight away when you pour. Lovely balance between the fruit and the oak influence, and the bubbles are tiny and persistent. Not something I'd buy every week at that price but perfect for the occasion.
Best champagne I've ever had
My husband surprised me with this for my 40th and I'm still thinking about it weeks later. The depth of flavour is incredible — there's fruit and this subtle toasty oak thing going on that just works. I don't know much about fancy champagne but I know I loved every single sip of this.
A serious step up
I've been slowly exploring grower champagnes and Henri Giraud keeps coming up. The oak barrel ageing gives this a richness you don't get from most champagne — it's bold without being heavy, if that makes sense. Clean finish that makes you want another glass. This is the kind of bottle that converts people.
Had this at a restaurant and tracked it down
Tried this by the glass at a restaurant in London and immediately wanted to find a bottle. There's something about the way the flavours build — starts bright and fruity then you get these deeper toasty notes coming through. Really satisfying to drink. Managed to find it online for about £178 which felt fair for what it is.
Impressive but my wallet hurts
Got recommended this by the guy at my local wine shop when I said I wanted something a step up from Moët. It's genuinely complex and the finish lingers in a really pleasant way. At £178 though, it's firmly in the treat-yourself category for me. Would absolutely buy again for a milestone birthday.
