Harveys Bristol Cream Sherry
Fortified 20% ABV ABV HarveysMy new winter evening drink
The guy in Majestic recommended this when I said I wanted something sweet but not too sweet for cold evenings. He was right — there's a nice spice on the finish and the sweetness doesn't overwhelm everything. Been having a small glass after dinner most nights. Dangerous at 20% ABV though.
It's fine, nothing special
Had this at my nan's over Christmas because it's always in her cupboard. It's decent enough — caramelly and sweet with some raisin notes. But I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it myself. There are more interesting fortified wines out there for similar money.
Does what it says on the tin
Look, it's Harveys Bristol Cream — everyone knows what this is. The nutty, toffee flavour is exactly what you want from a cream sherry. Nothing groundbreaking but it's reliable and cheap enough that I always keep a bottle in. Bit sweet for some people but I like it over ice.
Good with cheese and crackers
Picked this up from Tesco for a dinner party and served it with a cheese board. The orange peel thing really comes through when you have it with strong cheddar. At 20% it packs more of a punch than you'd think so pace yourself! Solid choice for the price.
Better than I expected honestly
Bought this for my mum's birthday because she loves sherry and I didn't know what else to get. Ended up trying some myself and was genuinely surprised — the toffee and dried fruit flavours are really nice, and it's not as sickly sweet as I thought it'd be. For fifteen quid you could do a lot worse.
