Harveys Amontillado Medium Dry Sherry
Fortified 20% ABV ABV HarveysDecent but not blown away
The guy at Majestic suggested this when I said I wanted to try sherry. It's alright — nutty, balanced, drinkable enough. But at 20% ABV it crept up on me faster than I expected and for £15.50 I think I was hoping for a bit more complexity. Might try something from an actual bodega next time.
Getting into sherry and this is a good start
I'm trying to learn more about fortified wines and this seemed like a safe bet. It's got a proper warmth to it and you can taste the fruit alongside the dry nuttiness. Not life-changing but genuinely enjoyable, and the long finish keeps things interesting. Would recommend to anyone who thinks they don't like sherry.
Really surprised by this one
Picked this up from Tesco on a whim because I fancied something different with cheese and crackers. The nutty smell hit me straight away — properly sherryish, if that's a word. For £15 odd quid you get something that actually tastes like it should cost more. Will definitely be buying again.
Christmas dinner hero
Bought this for our Boxing Day spread and it went down a storm with the stilton and walnuts. Everyone kept asking what it was. Really clean taste that doesn't leave a weird aftertaste like some sherries do. The nuttiness is lovely and it's got more going on than you'd think from a supermarket sherry.
Solid for the price
My dad always drank Harveys so I grabbed a bottle when I saw it. It's medium dry like it says on the label, not too sweet which I appreciated. There's a nice depth to it and the finish hangs around just enough to make you want another glass. Good honest sherry, nothing fancy but does the job well.
