Guillaume Sergent Chemin des Chappes 1er Cru Champagne
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV Guillaume SergentNice but not sure it's worth £55
A friend brought this to dinner and it was good, don't get me wrong. Clean finish, nicely balanced, proper champagne feel to it. But for £55 I think I expected a bit more excitement? I've had bottles at £35-40 that made me just as happy. Would drink it again if someone else was buying though.
Solid pick for a dinner party
Opened this at a dinner party and everyone commented on it. It's confident stuff — poured it and the smell hit you straight away without having to wait. 12.5% so nobody was falling over after a couple of glasses either. Clean finish that doesn't hang around being weird. Would buy again for hosting.
Birthday treat that delivered
Bought this for my 40th and wow, glad I did. Really expressive nose straight away — you don't have to swirl it around for ages waiting for something to happen. The acidity keeps it fresh and interesting, and I kept finding new things in it as the night went on. At £55 it's not cheap but for a premier cru champagne on a special occasion, I'd say it's fair.
This stuff is seriously good
I'm still fairly new to spending more than £20 on fizz but this has kind of ruined supermarket champagne for me. It's layered — like you taste one thing, then another thing comes through, then something else. Not one of those wines where you get everything in the first sip and that's it. Guillaume Sergent is now on my list.
Wine shop recommendation came through
The guy at my local recommended this when I said I wanted something a bit different from the usual big-name champagnes. He wasn't wrong — it's got proper structure to it and the acidity gives it this real zip that keeps you going back for more. Had it with some nibbles before a roast and it was perfect.
