Yasmine Najjar VIPsAllowed - Proper Cornas
8/10

Had this at a friend's dinner party and immediately asked where they got it. It's got that classic Cornas character — dark, structured, savoury. Goes brilliantly with a slow-cooked lamb shoulder. 14% but doesn't feel boozy at all which I appreciated.

Picked this up after reading about Guillaume Gilles online. I'm not great at waiting so I just cracked it open with some pasta. Even without decanting it was lovely — really clean finish and layers of fruit that kept shifting as I drank. Can only imagine what a few more years would do.

Bought this for my wife's birthday dinner and we were both blown away. Seriously dark fruit flavours, almost brooding, but it opens up beautifully after about 30 minutes. At nearly £68 it's not an everyday bottle but for a special occasion? Worth every penny.

Saw this on a restaurant wine list and liked it enough to track down a bottle for home. It's firm and focused without being harsh, and the acidity keeps everything in check. Paired it with ribeye and roast veg and it was spot on. Not flashy, just really well made.

7/10

The wine shop guy recommended this as a Northern Rhône worth trying. Honestly when I first opened it I wasn't sure — quite tight and closed off. Came back to it an hour later and it was a completely different wine, much more expressive. Probably should have decanted it properly.

Nice wine, no question. Lots of dark berry fruit and a finish that hangs around for ages. My only gripe is the price — nearly £70 is a lot and I've had Crozes-Hermitage at half the price that scratched a similar itch. Would buy again on sale though.
