Gonzalez Byass Solera 1847 Sherry
Fortified 20% ABV ABV Gonzalez ByassConverted me to sherry
I always thought sherry was something your nan drinks at Christmas but this completely changed my mind. It's rich and warming with lovely toffee and walnut notes, and the finish just lingers nicely. Genuinely impressive for £17.75.
Great with cheese
The guy at the wine shop recommended this to go with a cheese board and he was spot on. The nutty, figgy flavours work brilliantly with strong cheddar and blue cheese. At 20% it's pretty strong so a little goes a long way.
Birthday present to myself
Treated myself to a bottle for my birthday and honestly it punches well above its price. The fig and toffee on the nose had me hooked before I even tasted it. Lovely warm spiced finish too. One of the best fortified wines I've had under £20.
Really nice after-dinner sipper
Bought this for a dinner party and it was a massive hit. Loads of toffee and dried fruit flavour, sweet but not sickly. At under £18 it's a proper bargain for something this good. Will definitely be keeping a bottle in the house from now on.
Not bad but not my thing
My partner loves sherry so I grabbed this as a weekend treat. It's alright — quite sweet and caramelly, which I know some people are into. Personally I'd rather have a glass of red but I can see the appeal. Decent enough for the price I suppose.
Solid choice for the money
Had this at a tapas place and liked it enough to track down a bottle. It's well balanced — sweet but there's enough acidity to stop it being cloying. The dried fruit and caramel thing works well. Nothing mind-blowing but I'd happily buy it again.
