Gonzalez Byass Nectar / Pedro Ximenez
Dessert 14% ABV ABV Gonzalez ByassGood but not amazing
It's decent. Sweet and fruity like you'd expect from a PX style wine, and the acidity stops it being too much. But for over £20 I was hoping for something a bit more special. Would probably try something else next time.
Solid PX sherry
I've been getting into sherry lately and this is a solid entry from Gonzalez Byass. Rich and expressive with loads of dried fruit and a warm sweetness, but what I really like is that it doesn't just sit there being sticky — there's genuine acidity keeping things interesting. Good value at this price point for what you're getting.
Great with cheese
The guy at my local wine shop recommended this when I said I wanted something to go with a cheeseboard. He was spot on — poured it over some vanilla ice cream too and that was incredible. Lots of dark fruit and molasses flavours. Really warming.
Bit too sweet for me
Picked this up for my mum's birthday because she likes sweet wines. Tried some myself and it's well made — you can taste the quality and the finish is clean — but it's just sweeter than what I normally go for. She loved it though so job done I suppose.
Dessert wine that actually surprised me
Bought this on a whim because I wanted something sweet after dinner without cracking open the port again. The dried fruit flavours are really rich but it doesn't feel heavy or cloying like some dessert wines I've had. Really clean finish too. At about twenty quid it's a nice treat.
Absolute stunner, pour it on everything
I am obsessed with this stuff. Drizzled it over ice cream, had it with blue cheese, drank it on its own after dinner. The sweetness is there but it's got a proper backbone to it. Bought three bottles because I kept running out. At £20 it's a bargain for how good it is.
Nice dessert wine for the price
I'm not usually a dessert wine person but this was recommended to me and I can see the appeal. It's like liquid Christmas pudding in the best way — all those dark dried fruit flavours. Lighter than I expected which is a good thing.
Perfect after-dinner sipper
Had this at a friend's dinner party and went straight out to buy a bottle. It's properly sweet but not in a sickly way — there's something almost sharp underneath that keeps it balanced. The finish is lovely and smooth. Gonzalez Byass clearly know what they're doing.
