Gonzalez Byass La Concha Medium Sherry
Fortified 20% ABV ABV Gonzalez ByassSolid intro to sherry
Never really tried sherry before but the guy at Majestic recommended this as a good starting point. I can see what he meant — it's sweet but not sickly, and there's a nuttiness that keeps it interesting. Might explore some drier ones next but this was a decent first step for £12.75.
Really nice for the price
Picked this up from Waitrose on a whim because I wanted something different. Really surprised by how good it is — lovely nutty, caramelly flavour and it's not too sweet. At under £13 this is a proper bargain for after-dinner sipping.
Christmas cheese board winner
Had this with stilton and walnuts over Christmas and it was bang on. The dried citrus peel flavour works so well with strong cheese. Smooth too, doesn't burn despite being 20%. Will definitely be buying again next December.
Good sherry for cooking AND drinking
Bought this originally for a recipe but ended up pouring myself a glass while cooking. It's got that warm toasty almond thing going on and the sweetness isn't over the top. Decent everyday sherry, nothing fancy but does the job nicely.
Fine but not my thing
My mate swears by sherry so I gave this a go. It's alright — you can taste the dried fruit and almonds, and it's well made I'm sure. But at 20% it's a bit strong for me and I just prefer a glass of red honestly. Not bad, just not for me.
