Gonzalez Byass Del Duque Amontillado Sherry / 30 Year Old
Fortified 20% ABV ABV Gonzalez ByassGreat with cheese
The guy at my local wine shop recommended this when I said I wanted something different for a cheese night. It's dry and nutty with a long finish that just keeps going. Really enjoyed it but I think you need to be in the right mood for sherry — not an everyday pour.
Good but not really my thing
Got this as a gift and it's clearly well made. Very concentrated and nutty, almost savoury? The finish hangs around forever which is nice. I just don't think I'm a sherry person tbh. If you like this style though it's probably excellent.
Seriously impressive stuff
Bought this for my dad's 60th and we ended up finishing the bottle between us. The nuttiness is incredible — like toasted almonds but way more complex. At £29 for a 30-year-old sherry this is genuinely a bargain. Will be buying again.
Absolute stunner
I keep a few sherries around and this is the best amontillado I've had at this price point. The intensity hits you straight away — proper nutty concentrated aromas. Everything just works together perfectly. Genuinely can't believe this is under £30 for 30 years of ageing.
Perfect for cold evenings
Saw this recommended online somewhere and grabbed one. The nose is really something — you can smell it from across the table, all toasted nuts and richness. Goes down dangerously easy for 20%. Had it with some dark chocolate and salted almonds and it was spot on.
Lovely after-dinner sipper
Had this at a restaurant in Spain and tracked down a bottle when I got home. It's beautifully balanced — the alcohol doesn't burn at all despite being 20%. Really nice with some manchego and almonds. Poured small glasses and it lasted us a few evenings.
Where has this been all my life
I always thought sherry was what my nan drank at Christmas but this is something else entirely. Rich and layered with loads going on — nuts, dried fruit, a bit of salt maybe? Thirty years in barrel and you can taste every one of them. Under £30 feels like a steal.
Bit niche for casual drinking
Tried this at a tasting event and bought a bottle. It's clearly quality — very clean finish and the acidity keeps it fresh. But I find myself reaching for it less than I expected. It's more of a special occasion thing for me. Would probably score higher if I drank sherry more often.
