Gerard Boulay Sancerre Chavignol 2024
Red 14% ABV ABV Gerard BoulayBirthday treat that delivered
My partner got me this for my birthday and I'm glad they splashed out. It's got proper layers to it — kept noticing new things as I worked through the glass. The finish is clean and just lingers nicely. 14% but you wouldn't know it, dangerously drinkable.
Really impressed with this one
Picked this up for a dinner party and it was a massive hit. Loads of fruit but not jammy, and it's got this lovely acidity that kept me going back for more. At £38 it's not cheap but honestly felt worth it for a special occasion. Would definitely buy again.
Great with a roast
Had this with a lamb roast on Sunday and it was spot on. Really expressive nose, you can smell it as soon as you pour. The fruit is ripe but there's a proper backbone to it that stops it being too much. Sancerre reds don't get enough love honestly.
Nice but not sure about the price
The wine shop guy recommended this and it's good — clean finish, well balanced, drinks really smoothly for 14%. But nearly £40 is a lot and I've had similar reds from the Loire for less. Would maybe get it on offer.
