Fonseca Quinta do Panascal 2008 Vintage Port
Fortified 20% ABV ABV FonsecaGood introduction to vintage port
I'm fairly new to port beyond the usual supermarket stuff and this was a nice step up. You can tell it's been aged — everything just feels more settled and smooth compared to younger ports I've tried. Enjoyed it over a couple of evenings with stilton. Not life-changing but I learned what the fuss is about with older ports.
Nice but not blow-your-mind stuff
Got this as a birthday present and it's a decent port. Smooth and easy to drink, dark fruity flavours, nothing harsh about it. I've had cheaper ports that were rougher so the age clearly helps, but I wasn't reaching for a second glass either.
Really solid port for the price
Picked this up for a cheese night with friends and it was a big hit. Smooth dark fruit, no burn at all despite being 20% — went down way too easy honestly. At under thirty quid for a 2008 vintage, I thought it was genuinely good value.
Perfect with dark chocolate
Had this after Christmas dinner with some dark chocolate and it was gorgeous. Really smooth for a port, none of that rough alcohol heat you sometimes get. The fruit flavours are clean and it just sort of fades out nicely. Would definitely buy again.
Bit pricey for what it is
The wine shop guy recommended this and it's fine — smooth, clean finish, does the job after dinner. But nearly £29 for a single vintage port when you can get a solid LBV for half that? I'd maybe buy it again on offer but not at full price.
