Fonseca Guimaraens 2012 Port With Funnel
Fortified 20% ABV ABV FonsecaSolid port, does the job
Picked this up because it came with the funnel which I thought was a nice touch. It's decent — good dark fruit, nicely balanced, not too sweet like some ports can be. Would probably buy again but wouldn't say it blew my mind or anything.
Proper treat for a cold night
Bought this as a birthday present for my dad and we ended up cracking it open together. Really rich dark fruit flavours and it's got this warmth that just spreads through you without being too boozy. At £35 it's not cheap but honestly felt worth it for a special occasion.
Perfect after-dinner port
Had this after a dinner party with some stilton and it was absolutely lovely. There's a floral thing going on alongside the dark fruit that I wasn't expecting. Really smooth for 20% — you'd never guess it was that strong. Everyone asked what it was.
Fonseca never lets me down
I've been a fan of Fonseca for years and this 2012 is right up there. Beautiful structure, that firm backbone really holds everything together and the fruit is spot on. Clean long finish that keeps pulling you back. Already thinking about grabbing another bottle before they're all gone.
Good introduction to vintage port
I'm still pretty new to port but this Fonseca is the nicest one I've tried so far. It's got loads of depth and the more it sat in the glass the better it got. Definitely one to take your time with rather than knocking back. The included funnel is handy too.
Bit pricey for what it is
The wine shop guy recommended this and it's fine but I've had ports I enjoyed more for less money. It's well made and the finish goes on for ages which is nice. Just expected a bit more at nearly £35. The funnel is a bonus I suppose.
