Feuerheerds 2018 Late Bottled Vintage Port
Fortified 20% ABV ABV FeuerheerdsProper port for the price
Picked this up from Majestic on a whim and really glad I did. Dark fruity nose that fills the room when you pour it, and it drinks so smoothly for 20% — you barely notice the alcohol. At £18 this is my new go-to for after dinner.
Decent everyday port
Saw this on a menu at a Portuguese restaurant and liked it enough to track down a bottle. It's well made — good dark fruit, nice acidity that stops it being too sweet. Not quite as complex as some pricier options but honestly at this level I'm not complaining.
Solid but not mind-blowing
Got this as part of a port tasting we did with friends. It's good — nice dark fruit, decent structure, clean finish. Wouldn't say it blew me away compared to some others we tried that night, but for under £20 it holds its own.
Best port I've had at this price
I'm no expert but I've been slowly getting into port over the last year or so. This Feuerheerds is genuinely impressive — loads of personality in the nose, really well balanced, and the finish just keeps going without being overpowering. £18 feels like a steal for what you get.
Bit pricey for what it is
Maybe I was expecting too much but for £18 I thought there'd be more depth here. It's perfectly drinkable and the fruit is nice enough, but it didn't really grab me. My mate brought over a £12 ruby port last week that I enjoyed just as much. One and done for me.
Expected a bit more honestly
It's fine. Pleasant enough to sip after dinner and the fruit comes through nicely, but I've had LBV ports at this price that had more going on. The finish is clean which is nice but I wanted it to linger a bit longer. Not bad, just not special.
Christmas find!
Bought this for Christmas Day and it was a hit with the whole family. Even my dad who's fussy about port said it was really good. Lovely brooding dark fruit smell and it's got that warming quality without burning your throat. Will definitely be buying again next year.
Nice with cheese
The guy in the wine shop recommended this to go with stilton and he wasn't wrong. It's got enough sweetness to balance the cheese but doesn't feel sugary or heavy. Good depth to it. Would happily have this again.
