Fernando de Castilla Classic Oloroso
Red 14% ABV ABV Fernando de CastillaReally nice sherry for the price
Picked this up after the guy at my local wine shop recommended it. Really expressive nose, you can smell it as soon as you pour. At £22 it's a solid buy — I've had worse for twice the price. Will definitely be getting another bottle.
Goes down easy on a cold evening
Had this with some roast lamb on a Sunday and it was a great match. Not too boozy at 14%, nicely structured with a clean finish. It's the kind of thing I'd happily have a second glass of without thinking too hard about it. Would recommend for casual drinking.
Bit pricey for what it is
Look, it's a perfectly drinkable oloroso but I don't think it justifies the price tag. The nose promises more than the palate delivers in my opinion. I've had the Lustau equivalent and preferred it for a few quid less. Not bad, just not great value.
Birthday treat that delivered
My partner got me this for my birthday and I'm glad they did. Really confident flavour — you know exactly what you're getting from the first sip. Smooth, balanced, and the finish hangs around just long enough to make you want more. Lovely stuff.
Good with cheese and charcuterie
Bought this for a dinner party and served it alongside a big cheese board. It's got a nice balance to it, not too heavy despite the rich flavours. Everyone enjoyed it but nobody was raving about it either. Solid choice, just not a showstopper.
Decent but not sure I'd rebuy
It's perfectly fine and well made, clean finish and all that. But at over £22 I expected to be a bit more wowed. The depth is there on the palate but I've had olorosos with more character for less money. Not bad, just not grabbing me.
Nice introduction to oloroso
I'm still pretty new to sherry but saw this on a restaurant menu and gave it a go. It's got genuine complexity without being intimidating, if that makes sense? Went back and bought a bottle for home. Good starting point if you're curious about this style.
