Fernando de Castilla Antique Pedro Ximénez
Red 14% ABV ABV Fernando de CastillaAbsolutely stunning PX
I've tried a few Pedro Ximénez sherries and this is up there with the best. So expressive on the nose, you can smell it as soon as you pour. The finish just lingers beautifully without being heavy. £46 is fair for an antique-grade PX — you'd pay double in a restaurant.
Bit pricey for what it is
Picked this up on a whim and it's decent. Really smooth and complex with loads of dried fruit flavour, but I'm not sure I'd pay nearly £50 again when there are solid PX options for half that. That said, if someone poured me a glass I wouldn't complain one bit.
Nice but a bit much for me
My partner got this after the wine shop guy recommended it. It's very intense and concentrated, almost like liquid Christmas pudding. I preferred it in small pours at the end of a meal rather than a full glass. Good quality though, you can tell it's been aged properly.
Perfect after-dinner wine
Had this at a friend's dinner party and immediately went and tracked down a bottle. The sweetness is really well balanced — it doesn't just hit you over the head with sugar. Poured it over vanilla ice cream once too and that was unreal. Would definitely buy again.
Dessert in a glass
Bought this for my dad's birthday and we ended up finishing the whole bottle between three of us. It's incredibly rich and sweet but not in a sickly way — there's something keeping it fresh underneath. At £47 it's not cheap but honestly felt like a treat worth having.
